Brit Bonnici: A Tackle Your Feelings Story

words by Tackle Your Feelings, Tuesday 3 October 2023

From dealing with grief to the resilience of recovering from a cruel knee injury, Brit Bonnici has reflected on her mental health journey with Tackle Your Feelings.

Bonnici ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee in February 2022 and returned to the field 552 days later in round one of the 2023 AFLW season.

The Collingwood AFLW star detailed the importance of perspective in the moment while she facing the challenges that football and life dealt her.

“For me, it’s about taking a breath and enjoying a footballer again, and that’s everything with being a footballer.” Bonnici said.

“I want to enjoy every training session, even the ones that are hard. I want to enjoy the laughs with the girls in the changerooms before it.

“I just want to spend this season enjoying it, and when you are in those moments of going through things like your knee, you understand how good every little moment of footy is and that’s all you want.”

Bonnici achieved her 50 game milestone just a few weeks after her long-awaited return to football.
