Dylan Buckley: A Tackle Your Feelings story

words by Tackle Your Feelings, Thursday 16 April 2020

Starting up the ‘Dyl and Friends’ podcast allowed former Carlton player Dylan Buckley to find a “purpose” in life away from the football field.

Buckley spent five years at the Blues and two at Greater Western Sydney on his way to playing 41 career games, but it was the move to Sydney that led to a breakthrough in his life.

“I was a much happier and well-rounded person because I had a purpose besides playing footy.

“I’d get messages from people online, saying ‘Mate, I’ve had a shit time this week, I’ve had a shit time this month… but I listen to your podcast and it changed my week.”

Buckley said it was important for coaches to recognise the numerous personality traits across their group and tailor their coaching style to an individual’s needs.

“The littlest thing a coach can say to a player can change your day,” he said.
